Celebrity Visits Club (24/06/08)
Tuesday 24th June a well known celebrity in the Rugby League World visited the club. Brian McDermott Head Coach for Harlequins received a warm welcome at the club. Brian came down to cut the grass with our new lawn mower and give some valuable coaching tips to our U16's.

We were grateful that Brian agreed to come down and make the first cut. I think he enjoyed himself a little too much. (Boys and their Toys). Brian said “good that their getting it cut always been too long (and Laughs)”. On a more serious note rugby league has been the biggest growing sport in London and the South of England and the Harlequins input has been phenomenal. Brian also said “It is good to see a local club progressing, where they can self maintain and improve their grounds, as well as improving their coaching and managerial skills”.

Sharks lose the bite and Eagles grow wings - Deserved victory for Elmbridge who fought right to the end to win a very tough match.

THE SHEER GRIT, DETERMINATION & HEROICS OF THE U/13 SQUAD WAS IMMENSE IN THIS WELL DESERVED VICTORY. (SEE MATCH REPORT)
A WARM WELCOME FOR BRIAN MCDERMOTT

Brian McDermott (Harlequins Head Coach) popped down to watch some exciting rugby being played last Saturday. Brian was very happy to pose for photographs and presented the U13's man of the match award to Charle Brabham. Jim from the Mini's presented Brian a Elmbridge RLFC Shirt. Susan Muat (U14's Team Manager) gave a short interview, while Michael (Chairman) thanked Brian for coming down and supporting rugby league at 'grass root' level.
THE CHALLENGE CUP COMES TO ELMBRIDGE (17/4/08)

(17/4/08)
Challenge Cup - Great Sucess as many turned up to see the Challenge Cup and have their photos taken.Special appearance by Rikki Sheriffe (Quins RL Professional) saw many of our younger players line up for photographs and have their shirts signed. Rikki was swamped with enthusiastic U12's & U13's asking many questions. Adam Enden, Zach Fountain-Moore and Mitchel Walshe (U12's) to name a few were interested in how Rikki became a professional player.

Excited and spirited juniors fired question after question at Rikki, who was very happy to answer them all. (Zack) Tips for a Winger? (Rikki) - Practise high balls. Run in to spaces not faces. (Adam) What age did you start playing? (Rikki) Played football until my brother (7yrs) went along to rugby league and I joined him (I was 9yrs) really enjoyed it and not stopped since. (Mitchel) What team did you first start playing for? (Rikki) Ovenden in Halifax as a full back.
You can learn more about Rikki and other Professional players on the Harlequins website: www.quins.co.uk
More photos coming soon of the The Challenge Cup at Elmbridge RLFC,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
(12/2/08) DANIEL HECKENBERG - On Tuesday 12th February, the under 14's and under 16's were treated to Daniel Heckenberg from Quins RL joining them for training. Daniel, a prop for the Quins RL first team, obviously enjoyed himself at the training session as he has said he will come back and help out whenever he can. This is a brilliant opportunity for the players to gain advice from a professional at the top of his game. Alhtough the under 12's and under 13's lost out this time, I'm sure their time will come to learn from Daniel. Unfortunately, due to Daniel's hectic schedule at this time of year, prior warning won't be availble as to when he can make it.
